Winter is the longest and the most fascinating season in Heilongjiang, China’s northernmost province. Heilongjiang people love ice and snow.
In particular, the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival or Harbin Ice and Snow World, an annual winter festival that takes place with a theme in Harbin has been known as the most popular winter attraction in the world.
The festival can be dated back to 1999. The event is a unique ice and snow tourist and cultural festival commissioned by Harbin Municipal Government and sponsored by Harbin Cultural Tourism Group.
Simple and transparent ice cubes are assembled into castles, palaces, bridges, and slides.
The Harbin Ice and Snow World is annual labour intensive project for the local workers. All ice cubes are extracted from the nearby Songhua River and moved to site for building and sculpting.
